Every merchant, payment processor and organisation that stores and processes sensitive card data online must comply with Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS). Nomupay is certified as a PCI DSS Level 1 (the highest level) service provider that maintains a protected environment for merchants and customers.
What is PCI DSS?
PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard) is a set of security standards designed to ensure that all companies that process, store or transmit card information maintain a secure environment to reduce the risk of data breaches, identity thefts and other fraudulent as well as criminal activities.
It was developed by the Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council (PCI SSC), founded by major credit card companies like Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover and JCB.
Levels of compliance
There are four levels of PCI compliance determined by your annual transaction volume:
Level one: Over six million transactions annually (requires annual onsite audit).
Level two: One to six million transactions.
Level three: 20,000 to one million transactions.
Level four: Less than 20,000 transactions.
Note that every level has different requirements but we are for you if you need any advice.

Self-Assessment Questionnaire or SAQ is the method of verifying whether your system complies with PCI standards and is suitable for handling sensitive data.
You’ll fill in the questionnaire yourself annually. It consists of different yes-or-no questions for every PCI requirement. After submitting your answers, you’ll receive a security certificate confirming that you’re PCI compliant.
There are different questionnaires for various types of organisations depending on how they accept card payments. If you’re a new merchant and you’re unsure which SAQ to fill in, don’t worry, we’re always on hand to guide you through it.
